Typically, the pairing of “Zegna” and “suit up” conjures up images of luxurious tailored couture, but in their new capsule, part of the “Our Road, Beyond Boundaries” campaign, the Italian design house trades the double-breasted suits for ultra-technical sportswear, carefully designed for mountaineering and winter sports. The multi-piece capsule includes apparel, accessories and footwear, and is released in conjunction with the Zegna logo, as part of a larger brand shift under the artistic direction of Alessandro Sartori.
The capsule, which was released Dec. 3 and can be found at Zegna, as well as select wholesalers, bears Zegna’s orange and black postmark, and applies the principles of bespoke craftsmanship to pieces focused on performance like the Half-Zip Mock Neck Sweatshirt and 2- Layered Wool Technical Track Pants. Favoring sustainable and natural materials, the collection uses Zegna’s ‘Techmerino’ technology for a warm, weather-resistant and ultra-luxury end product.
Also of note are the collaborations featured in the Outdoors Capsule: not one, but four different brands have contributed iconic styles to their archives, spanning hikers, winter sports gear and more. La Sportiva, Zia, Kask and Sigg each offered a signature item remade in Zegna fashion, such as La Zenga TX Top mountain boots and Zai high-performance skis.
Zegna is not the only luxury equipment manufacturer to have released technical collections inspired by winter sports this season; Jil Sander and Arc’teryx teamed up for a similar ski collection last month. Clearly, the fashion gorp-ification has far-reaching fingers.
