Four silhouettes are captured in a huge full moon, descending the mountain. It’s a wee bit scary, a bit comical, and utterly gripping all at once – not to mention phenomenally timing.
Taken by Yhabril Moro in the Spanish Pyrenees, this shot is one of 20 winners of the 2022 CVCEPhoto awards, a competition organized by Club Vasco de Camping Elkartea, a mountaineering club based in San Sebastián, Spain. The idea of the contest is to use photography to promote mountain activities, from free climbing and skiing to kayaking and mountain biking.
The 2022 CVCEPhoto awards ceremony will take place in San Sebastián on May 28 and you can view the full list of winners here. But in the meantime, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite winners, including…
This strange photo of a skier in an ice cave
This vast bright orange climbing cliff
A very, very daring climber hanging over an arch
This stunningly beautiful campsite
Someone is literally kayaking from a waterfall
A cinematic off-piste skier
This suspended escape from an icy ravine
A very close shave
