Ski Mountaineering World Cup, Robert Antonioli and Alba De Silvestro win an individual race in Andorra

Andorra hosted the second stage of the 2019 Ski Mountaineering World Cup. Italians Robert Antonioli and Alba De Silvestro won the individual race, while Swiss Werner Marti and Victoria Kreuzer won the vertical.

The second stage of the 2019 Ski Mountaineering World Cup took place in Andorra last weekend with two distinct disciplines, individual and vertical. Saturday morning on the slopes of Arcalís, Roberto Antonioli and Alba De Silvestro proved to be unbeatable on a modified route due to heavy snowfall, with a positive drop of 1700 meters for men and 1500 meters for women.

Antonioli finished in 1:23:30 to beat teammate Matteo Eydallin by just 16 seconds, while Frenchman Xavier Gachet finished third after 1:25:49. In women’s competition, Alba De Silvestro celebrated her first-ever World Cup victory after battling for 1:43:35, to beat Spain’s Claudia Galicia Cotrina (1:44:13) and France’s Lorna Bonnel .

The Vertical Race took place in Arinsal on Sunday morning and was won, after a +730m battle against gusts of wind, by the Swiss Werner Marti and Victoria Kreuzer. Marti clocked 27:39, beating teammate Rémi Bonnet by 4 seconds while Robert Antonioli finished third after 28:07. Kreuzer took gold in 34:24 to win the first Vertical competition of the 2019 season, ahead of “home” favorites Claudia Galicia Cotrina and Alba De Silvestro who, with one gold and one bronze, can be more than satisfied with this weekend.

The 2019 Ski Mountaineering World Cup continues this weekend at Le Dévoluy in France with the Individual and Sprint competitions.
