Brisbane man remembered after tragic climbing accident

A young man who died climbing in the Glasshouse Mountains on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday is remembered for his effervescent and cheerful personality.

Peter Garlick, 18, was rock climbing at Mount Ngungun at noon on Saturday, where he suffered a major fall.

A rescue helicopter was dispatched and paramedics treated Mr. Garlick for serious injuries after he fell 40 meters, but he died at the scene.

Mr. Garlick, who graduated from Northside Christian College in 2019, was studying teaching at QUT.

Northside Christian College wrote on Facebook on Sunday that Mr. Garlick “will be remembered for his effervescent and cheerful personality.”

“Our sincere condolences and prayers to Peter’s family and friends at this time,” the post read.

“The Garlick family has been an integral part of Northside Christian College for many years, and we mourn alongside them today.

“Peter was in his second year at QUT studying teaching and was a recent employee of OSHC Northside.
