Arapahoe Basin ski area to host ski mountaineering races in virtual format

The Arapahoe Basin ski area will host the popular Rise and Shine Rando ski mountaineering race series via a virtual format starting Tuesday, January 12.

A-Basin will allow ski mountaineers to register online for $ 15 per race and record their times through the Strava app when running on an unmarked course. Starting Tuesday, participants will have four days to record their times.

A-Basin spokesperson Katherine Fuller wrote in an email that A-Basin cannot leave course markings, so participants should make sure they know the route before starting the race. .

This first course makes two laps from the base zone to the summit for a total of 6.5 miles and 3,240 feet of elevation gain.

The race route can only be completed outside of the opening hours of the ski lifts, which are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Access above the Black Mountain Lodge after 8:30 am is prohibited.

A 2020-21 A-Basin uphill pass is required for the race. Passes are free for A-Basin season pass holders but must be reserved. Those who do not have a season pass must purchase an uphill pass in line for $ 59 for the season.

The following races are scheduled for January 26-30 and February 9-13. For more information and to register, visit ArapahoeBasin.com/events.
