More people are using the trails than ever before. Nearly half of American adults now hike, and an estimated 20% of those people have been totally new to the outdoors since the pandemic. Lululemon took this thriving connection with Mother Nature as inspiration and the brand’s new range of hiking apparel is designed to help you climb many more mountains in style.

The US National Trails System is more than 88,600 miles long– and Lululemon’s new collection is designed for the many weather patterns you’ll encounter when covering the desert, mountain, beaches, and more. Nothing in the collection does just a thing. Jackets unzip to reveal hoods, backpacks hide a million useful pockets, and buttons change temperatures to keep you comfortable from trailhead to sight.

To make sure all the parts live up to expectations, we ran them on the trails. Below, find the five pieces that have felt great mile after mile.

Get outdoors with Lululemon’s new hiking chute

Convertible Ripstop Hiking Jacket — $178.00

This shape-shifting jacket is easily my favorite piece in the collection. The purse fully zips and zips for easy access to your phone, keys, wallets, and sunscreen, and features a beautiful wave-shaped strap that sets it apart. You can also unzip the sleeves if the trail gets too hot or release the hood if it starts to rain. In short, this jacket is ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at you. Hang it in bay green, black or antique copper.

Convertible High Rise Hiking Jogger — $198.00

Similar to the Convertible Ripstop hiking jacket, these pants are ready for the elements. The legs tuck completely into the shorts and feature two large pockets for the snacks you need to get more mileage. As a rock climber, I also love those long days on the cliff when I maybe want to protect my legs from the rock while I’m moving vertically, but enjoy the coolness of the shorts once I’m back on the ground.

Grid Fleece Hiking Overshirt — $148.00

This ’80s-inspired button-down shirt has a simple, airy vibe that belies just how utilitarian it really is. The fabric is designed to keep you cool or warm (depending on what you need at the time) and has three large pockets to store everything you need. Wear it with a pair of bike shorts, a leotard, or wear it open over your swimsuit. As with all pieces in Lululemon’s hiking collection, this overshirt dries quickly so you don’t have to live your life in wet clothes after an unexpected summer swim.

High Waisted Multi-Pocket Cargo Hiking Skirt — $98.00

Trust me: you didn’t know you needed a hiking skirt until this very moment. Extra-large cargo pockets and a carabiner clip make this piece super functional whether you’re taking your dog for a quick walk around the block or venturing out to your local hiking spots. Buy it in white, black or prosecco.

21L Front Clip Backpack — $148.00

Every adventure calls for a backpack that’s up to the challenge, and this 21-litre backpack will take you far. This bag has so many hidden pockets (Do you dare to find them all), and the purple rope detail is great for attaching anything you might need (keys, hand sanitizer, bobby pins). Fill up on water and get moving.
